`PlaceDescAxis::axis(axis)` shared its name with `PlaceDesc`'s extraction,
which is now `Index<Axis>` and reads `place[axis]`. The two go opposite
directions, so they get different words: `on_axis` pairs with the
`from_axis` it is the shorthand for.
